I really need to update more often.

I know a lot of people don't visit my blog, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the amount of updates I provide. I know once my artwork gets better I'll probably have more people looking. Having more stuff on here is also a way to keep myself motivated. So I'll keep trying to update. I don't want to be one of those guys that never updates their blog.

Anyways, here is some stuff I've been working on. I'm taking an advanced perspective class at my school right now. It's really helped simplify a lot of things, since the whole idea behind the class is to put composition first and then plotting second. It's designed to get pieces done quick...although I admit I'm a slow worker still. In any case, here are a few pieces I did with the themes of Samurai, Geisha, and Noah's Ark. All were pencil drawings that I darkened up/cleaned up in Photoshop. Some stuff I'm okay with, but a lot of it I'm a little disappointed with. I think my biggest need is still an improvement of anatomy. I think by knowing everything a lot better in my mind, I won't
have to sketch something out as much and erase...and my drawings won't look overworked, which I hate. Remembering certain things about perspective is a must as well...such as how tall a person is if they're on a certain building compared to the ground or how big a compartment should be if you see a man leaning out a window. Hopefully this is all resolved with repetitive practice.

Just an update on a tone drawing.

Here's just an update on the Jarah Mariano drawing I did on tone better. It's a little better, but I still don't like it that much. The shoulder is still a little messed up. On her left. Could be longer. Bleh, oh well. Perhaps I'll correct it.

Some tone paper drawings.

Hey yeah it's been quite some time since I made a post, but I'm here to share some new stuff. I really need to get this Blogger thing going. Anyways, here are some figure drawings on tone paper with black and white charcoal pencil. The first is a photo of Jarah Mariano, a Victoria Secret model. I still need to do some adjustments with her particularly. I might post the new version up here soon. Anyways, the rest are finished for the most part. There were a couple where our model had to leave and our time was cut short unfortunately. Oh and no Jarah didn't model for my class. That was from a photo. Too bad though.

Some more stuff.

Hey just here with an update. It's been a while. I'll make this quick. Just wanted to display some newsprint drawings that I had done. Hopefully I'm getting at least a little better.

Hey everyone.

Hey everyone. New to this Blogger.com thing. Seemed interesting though, so I decided to check it out. Guess I should say a little something about myself. Well, I'm a traditional illustration major at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. I'm trying to establish myself as a future artist focusing around figure illustration or maybe something along the lines in comic illustration. But classic drawing is something that I find to be very unique and appealing towards me. So I plan to stick with just that as long as I can. I'm up to exploring new things. I mean I have to at my school, but original illustration with the likes of pencils, charcoal, etc. is what really draws my attention. Anyways, you visitors are welcome to see what I bring to the table. Here a a few samples of some of my recent work. Just some figure drawings and other stuff:

Some quick studies.

I've had the chance to go to a Quick Studies workshop this semester since I'm finally living in the city. It's really cool and I believe super beneficial to me since I am going down the path of illustration. I'm a big fan of speed and I want to get a lot faster. From everyone I heard that's in the same situation as me in terms of what I like and want to do, they all say go to the Quick Studies workshop. Here are some samples of what I did last night. Just a few. I'm tired of uploading every single page I did during the session on every other online venue. Here's one, two, three, and five minute samples.

Bittersweet Still Life

A still life I did. Honestly my energy towards the end of this painting dwindled, and I know I made a few huge blunders on this one. First an foremost, the most obvious is the tangent with the top of the bottle with the edge of the canvas. Big no, no. And there is still that halo effect from the initial drawing around the glass. So that's kind of annoying. I could have put more soul into this one. Better luck next time I guess.

Just one drawing to show.

Uploaded this one drawing from my newsprint pad. Guess I might as well show it here. Took me a little over an hour to do, but I didn't get to work on the finishing touches as much as I wanted to. Hopefully with more practice, I'll get faster.

Here are some pages from my sketchbook. A lot of them are in

Here are some pages from my sketchbook. A lot of them are in Marvel style (since that is what I want to do, draw comics). Right now they are really raw. Don't really like them that much personally. I'm trying to copy a lot of diagrams from mostly John Buscema because he is my favorite artist (R.I.P). I'm going to try and increase my workload to doing sixty sketchbook pages a week. That is about nine pages a day on average. Just so I can get better faster and get over these annoying trials and tribulations.

Back in action.

Been a while. Here are some more drawings. Various times. 5 to 30 minutes. All compressed charcoal.
